The dominant part of online pictures fall under two record groups †JPEG and PNG.So which one would it be advisable for you to utilize? All things considered, that depends. The two alternatives have favorable circumstances and inconveniences, and the decision to a great extent relies upon the scenario.JPE G †JPEG is the best choice for photos and different pictures showing a tremendous assortment of hues. They can likewise be packed, giving up quality for a decrease in document size.PNG †PNGs win for illustrations, drawings, content, and some screen captures. They likewise bolster straightforwardness, not at all like JPEGs. This organization utilizes lossless pressure, which brings about higher caliber yet in addition greater files.Usually, the document design is controlled by the sort of picture we are working with, as sketched out above. Notwithstanding, what is the result of picking an inappropriate document design, regarding record size?Well, lets investigate a couple of situations to test this. This full-size screen capture of my WordPress dashboard was 150kb in PNG position, however 259kb as a JPEG. Keep in mind, screen captures are typically the area of the PNG †the JPEG is around 75% more bulky.(Editors note. PNGs work superbly for most screen captures, yet just not every one of them. On the off chance that you have a screen capture of something that utilizes in excess of a bunch of hues for example when your screen capture contains a photo some place in it youre still happier with JPG.)However, the full-size rendition of this photograph I took on vacation restores the contrary outcomes. The photograph in JPEG position is 1.26mb; the PNG an astounding 7.23mb. That implies the PNG is over 550% greater (yikes!).This exhibits how significant the correct document design is to the size of your pictures. Whenever squeezed, adhere to the accompanying principle: Photos and stuff with different hues, JPEG; everything else, PNG.2. Resize imagesWhen you recoil the elements of a picture, you diminish its document size. Without exception. To keep your site light and deft, ensure you diminish the pictures physical size as much as possible †commonly, to the measurements you need to show your pictures at. On the off chance that the most extreme width of your site is, state, 1000 pixels, theres no reason for transferring a picture that is more extensive than 1000 pixels. Bigger than-should be expected measurements ensure that the picture is conveying pointless mass, and therefore making it harder for you to appropriately picture improvement in WordPress.Even however the WordPress thumbnail highlight can show pictures at littler sizes, that doesnt change the fundamental document size of the picture being referred to. Clearly, an exemption can be made for picture takers and different craftsmen, who might need to show a thumbnail connecting to their full-size, high-res work.Again, permit me to exhibit the kind of investment funds you can make. The full-size adaptation of my past photo has measurements of 2592 x 1456 pixels and is 1.26mb. Be that as it may, lets perceive how much the document size psychologists while resizing the picture to a few well known widths. An case of picture improvement in WordPress:1200 pixels wide: 394kb1000 pixels wide: 298kb800 pixels wide: 219kb600 pixels wide: 154kbAs you can see, the size investment funds are really staggering! To resize the pictures in an efficient way, you can introduce Optimole on your WordPress site and it will do everything on autopilot. It makes a precise reproduction of your picture, yet one where everything is smaller.Shrinking a picture past a specific point implies a few components are scarcely noticeable. This is particularly hazardous when the point of convergence of a picture is done clear.Cropping is the option in contrast to resizing. As opposed to contracting the whole picture, you a re basically cutting around the edges †like utilizing some scissors on a photo. The piece of the picture you are attempting to show turns out to be increasingly noticeable, and you remove all the interruptions from the background.Heres an exhibit of how trimming a picture can be superior to just resizing it, utilizing a trusty WordPress screenshot. The resized image:The edited image:Of course, the advantage of editing is that, much the same as resizing, it lessens picture measurements, cuts record size, and is in this manner an incredible method of doing picture advancement in WordPress.4. Lower picture quality (lossy compression)When youve got done with editing and resizing your pictures, you can appreciate further document size decreases by packing them. This procedure is especially compelling and mainstream for JPEGs, despite the fact that PNGs can likewise be compressed. Now, JPEG bolsters a kind of pressure called lossy pressure. This implies a portion of the picture informa tion is stripped away to decrease record size. For model, if two nearby pixels show the smallest shading distinction, we can pull off creation them the equivalent. The change is scarcely discernible to the unaided eye, however having less hues keeps record size low. When sparing a JPEG document utilizing a picture altering programming, youll be approached to choose a quality score from 0-100. This is basically an exchange off between picture quality and document size.Higher score: lower pressure; more excellent; greater record size.Lower score: higher pressure; lower quality; littler document size.Generally, little changes in quality score have little effect to the general nature of your picture. Truth be told, its impossible that your guests can tell the difference. To outline this, see the two photographs beneath. One has a quality score of 100, one of 80. Which is which?Image enhancement in WordPress photo A:Photograph B:Click here to revealPhotograph B has the quality score of 100. Its difficult to differentiate, isn't that so? In any case, with regards to record measures, the thing that matters is night and day: 418kb versus 90kb.You cant continue bringing down quality everlastingly, however, as eventually, the drop in quality will appear. The picture underneath has a quality score of 20:Sure, it may just be 28kb, yet I wouldnt need this on my site, would you? Now, there is no brilliant guideline for the ideal pressure level. Nonetheless, irrationally, the more mind boggling the picture, the more you can pull off bringing down the quality on your approach to extreme picture streamlining in WordPress.5. Serve pictures on a CDNEverything on the web occurs in a moment, correct? Well no, really. Topographical separations between a guests area and your sites server affect site speed †the bigger the separation, the more extended the wait.To take care of this inertness issue, think about introducing a CDN. Is Cyberbullying Related to Gender - Free Essay Example

For a long period, cyberbullying has emerged as a developing phenomenon. People have used technology such as chat rooms, text messages, and emails to create an aggressive message with repeated physical and psychological oppression along with the abuse of power to cause distress. Such an attack can be direct or indirect. Direct attack or overt hostility involves causing physical harms to others through insult, stealing, assaults, taunting, and physical fight. Conversely, indirect aggression aim at damaging and manipulating members of peer relationships through propaganda, gossip, and exclusion from other groups. As a result, different scholars have contentious views concerning the influence of gender on cyberbullying. Some believe that cyberbullying is related to genders while others have controversial opinions. Li (2006) surveyed students to investigate the effects of gender differences on cyberbullying within the school. According to the study findings, Li found that males were more bullied and cyberbullied than their counterpart female students. Similarly, female victims of cyberbully showed a high likelihood of reporting cyberbullying than males. These findings led Li to the conclusion that cyberbullying is related to gender identity. Using the empirical study, Li focused on two issues while exploring the effects of gender on cyberbullying. The first focus was to examine experiences of cyberbullying across gender differences of randomly selected students in Canada. Secondly, the study aimed at investigating the perceptions of male and female students concerning the schooling environment. According to the results of the study, no significant difference was reported on sex proportions between those who reported having bullied. However, male students revealed less probability of reporting bully and cyberbully incidents to adults than female students. Also, no significant difference was found across genders concerning the frequencies of cyberbullying experiences. Besides, 64.1% of students recounted that adults in schooling climate attempted to halt cyberbullying activities only after being informed (Li, 2006). From the exploration of bullying, cyberbullying, and victimization, this study establishes that gender diff erence significantly influences cyberbullying. In another study conducted by Williams, and Guerra (2007), boys were found to be more victims of bullying than girls. However, no sex disparities were found in cyberbullying, a finding that leads Williams, and Guerra into a conclusion that cyberbullying is not related to gender. Findings concerning the prevalence of bullying penetration propose that distribution varies across verbal, physical, and internet bullying. Verbal bullying was reported being prevalence while internet bullying was the least. The study empirically examined the three bullying predictors. The first predictors investigated the moral acceptability of bullying. The remaining two predictors reflected youth’s perceptions concerning the context of participation and the kind of peers they interact with online. From the highlighted predictors of various types of bullying, findings from this study recommend for preventive interventions to impact the popular bullying types. Williams and Guerra suggest that normativ e perception regarding the acceptability of bullying be changed. From the above analysis, it is apparent that the two studies have contrasting conclusions concerning the impact of gender on cyberbullying. Lin’s research finds that gender plays a critical role in influencing cyberbullying. In this case, the proportion of males who fall victims of cyberbullying is higher than that of females. Surprisingly, more men than women also choose not to report incidents of cyberbullying to adults. On the other hand, although males are found to be more vulnerable to bullying, no significant difference between sexes is found concerning the vulnerability of cyberbullying. Due to the controversial findings, more empirical research should be conducted to establish the reality concerning whether or not gender influences cyberbullying.

Bullet Containing Embedded Metal Fragments - 1580 Words

Wounds containing embedded metal fragments are not a recent phenomenon. However, the introduction of unique metal mixtures to the modern battlefield, as well as the insurgents use of improvised explosive devices, have resulted in the potential of embedded fragment wounds with materials whose toxicological properties are not well understood. The Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute was one of the first laboratories to study the long-term health effects of embedded fragments of military-relevant metals. Responding to concerns over the effects of wounds containing depleted uranium, the Institute developed a rodent model system to investigate this issue. As additional unique metal mixtures were incorporated into weapons systems, the†¦show more content†¦One aspect that did not change was the use of lead in ammunition. In the 1900s other metals and metal mixtures were used to produce munitions. In response to the increased range of firearms and the military requirement to defeat hardened targets, copper, tungsten carbide, and steel found their way into munitions. Advances in medical care also resulted in increased survival rate of wounded individuals, many of whom now carried embedded metal fragments in their bodies. Standard surgical guidelines recommended leaving embedded fragments in place, unless they could be easily removed, to lessen the collateral tissue damage that surgery can inflict. In addition, there were few indications reported in the scientific literature to indicate that embedded metal fragments left in place were a health hazard in either the short- or long-term. There were, however, the occasional reports of adverse health effects resulting from the long time retention of lead fragments (Stromberg, 1990; Eylon et al., 2005). The effects were usually attributed to the solubilization of lead from the fragments, as symptoms usually abated once the fragment was surgically removed (Linden et al., 1982; Beazley and Rosenthal, 1984; Magos , 1994; Gerhardsson et al., 2002). RESEARCH ON DEPLETED URANIUM Increases in the ability of armored vehicles to withstand penetration by projectiles led to the search for more effective armor-penetrating munitions and one material proved to be superior,

Monitoring Mechanism of Strategy Implementation

Question: Discuss about the Monitoring Mechanism of Strategy Implementation. Answer: The strategy implementation process is one of the most crucial part of the entire operational success of Tesla. In this context, the organization is highly focused on monitoring minute changes in the market environment in order to implement the changes in their strategy. The effectiveness of the strategy implementation process also holds a greater importance in the monitoring mechanism. It has been noted that the prime focus of Board of Directors in Tesla is overseeing the performance of the management. In addition to that, risk oversight is a major aspects of their responsibilities (Sharma, 2016). They are bound to review several important areas corporate governance, which is conducted by pertinent board committees. Moreover, in order to properly implement the business strategy towards an appropriate and fruitful direction the board of directors is expected to put in their effort and time (Tesla, 2017). Furthermore, it has been observed from the organizational activities of Tesla that performance management is considered as a major factor for the successful implementation process (Chernev, 2014). Therefore, compensation committee is needed assess the performance of various executive officers. This success of the strategy implementation process is also taken into consideration at the time of assessment. In addition to that, the corporate governance and nominating committee is also accountable for reviewing the potential as well as actual conflicts of interest between corporate officers as well as board members (Chang, 2016). As the conflict of interest has a greater influence in the success of strategy implementation process, the corporate governance and nominating committee must conduct this sensitive review with greater precision (Tesla, 2017). The effectiveness of the practices conducted by board governances is immensely reflected through the level of success in strategy implementation process. In this context, the nominating as well as corporate governance committee would be also focused on evaluating and reviewing the effectualness in governance practices. The assessment immensely helps Tesla to conduct an appropriate monitoring of strategy implementation process. In this context, the managerial professionals play an immense role in identifying the issues and advantages of the implemented strategy (Hulscher, Laurant Grol, 2013). In order to identify the effectiveness of the strategy implementation process, the organization focuses on several major quantifiable market indicators. These indicators are number of obtained sales leads, achieved dollar amounts as well as customers reached. These quantifiable market indicators have a greater ability to reflect the success implementation process. The managerial board can effect ively identify whether the implementation process has achieved the strategic goals are not. This particular monitoring technique also helps Tesla to stop or change the strategy at the implementation phase (Tesla, 2017). Tesla immensely focuses on the Balance Score Card perspectives for evaluating as well as controlling the strategy implementation process. This particular perspectives is highly effective to offer an effective and realistic framework for implementing the strategy successfully. In addition to that, it helps to evolve the strategy in accordance with technological, market as well as competitive environment of Tesla (Mangram, 2013). There are four key crucial perspectives, which formulate the evaluation of strategy implementation process. These perspectives are financial measures, customer relationships, internal business processes as well as learning and growth. Economics and Quantitative Analysis Economy

Question: (a) Provide a descriptive analysis of the two variables (e.g., mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum). (b) Develop a scatter diagram with retention rate as the independent variable. What does the scatter diagram indicate about the relationship between the two variables? (c) Develop and estimate a regression equation that can be used to predict the graduation rate (%) given the retention rate (%). (d) State the estimated regression equation and interpret the meaning of the slope coefficient. (e) Is there a statistically significant association between graduation rate (%) and retention rate (%). What is your conclusion? (f) Did the regression equation provide a good fit? Explain. (g) Suppose you were the president of South University. After reviewing the results, would you have any concerns about the performance of your university compared to other online universities? (h) Suppose you were the president of the University of Phoenix. After reviewing the results, would you have any concerns about the performance of your university compared to other online universities? Answer: Introduction The two variables that are used within this report for the performance of several universities are named as the graduation rate and a retention rate. The graduation rate is dependent on the retention rate where the retention rate means the rate at which the students continue their education from the same university. Through it, the graduation rate will likely increase because the retention rate is higher. This would mean that the increase in the retention rate will have a positive increasing effect on the graduation rate which needs to be assessed through scatter plot and regression equation (Beldona, 2010). Other statistical tools will also be used like min and max method, mean and standard deviation. The min method provides us with the most minimum retention rate among the universities and the most minimum graduation rate among the universities. The max method will provide us with the most maximum retention and graduation rate. The mean will provide the analyst with the most common percentage among the universities signifying the retention rate and graduation rate. The standard deviation will provide us the variability from the mean. The scatter plot will facilitate in identifying the relationship between the two variables and the regression equation will help in illustrating the relationship in an equation. Purpose The 29 online universities are to be analyzed in accordance with their performance using statistical tools to statistically analyze the data for it. Those statistical measures would include the min-max method, scatter plot, mean, standard deviation and regression equation. All of the terms are already explained in the previous section. The purpose would notify as to how the two variables are interrelated with each other. Background The statisticians use these measures to understand the dataset provided within the study. The statistical tools will help us in understanding the statistical relationship between the two variables and hence, it would be quite effective to apply the statistical tools to determine the exact relationship between the two variables. (Armstrong, 2013) In accordance with the regression equation, this is the most significant statistical tool because the relationship between the two variables is described in to an equation where the relationship provides us with a good analysis of the independent and dependent variable. This is done through an equation below: Y = m X +c The retention rates and graduation rates have been a in significant relation between each other which has resulted the retention rate to officially think of it that all such retention rates were increasing and the graduation rates are decreased. Method Firstly, mean is determined which would let us know the most common rate among the 29 online universities. The mean would identify the most common rate in accordance with the retention rate and graduation rate. In the same way, then standard deviation method will let the statisticians know as to how much variability is there from the determination of mean. Some other methods like min and max method. The min means the least possible value for the retention rate or graduation rate. However, the scatter plot will also be used which represents the illustration of the graph through which the type of relationship will be evident. There are three types of relationship which can be illustrated through a scatter plot (Kahng, 20010). The first one is known as a positive relationship between the two variables. That means that when X increases, Y also increases. Then there exists a negative relationship. That means that when X increases, Y decreases or when X decreases, Y increases. Therefore, t he two variables are then negatively correlated. After that, the third type of relationship is the no relationship (Omran, 2010). This means that there is no resultant increase in Y with an increase in X. Both the variables remain unchanged. Then the regression method is also used to describe the relationship between the two variables in an equation form. Results The results for the given data are shown below: Astatisticaltechnique used to explain or predict the behaviour of adependent variable. Generally, aregressionequationtakestheformof Y= m X + c , where Y is the dependent variable that the equationtriesto predict, X is theindependent variablethat is being used to predict Y, a is the Y-intercept of the line, and c is avaluecalled the Y intercept (Kahng, 2013). It can be seen that the mean retention rate is 57.4% while the mean graduation rate is 42%. The standard deviation for the retention rate is 23% while the standard deviation for the graduation rate is 9.8%. The max retention rate is 100% while the max graduation rate is 61%. The minimum retention rate is 4% while the minimum graduation rate is 25%. The most common retention rate among the universities is 57.4% emulated by the graduation rate of 42%. Scatter Plot The scatter plot for this data set is shown as under: The m slope is calculated as the graduation rate = M x retention rate + 25.4%. Hence According to the author, the scatter diagram shows a positive relationship between the two variables. However, at certain instances, the retention rates are lower and the graduation rates are substantially higher (Murnance, 2013). This is a great concern for the statistical analyst from this point of view. However, to sum up as a whole, the retention rate increases due to which the graduation rate also increases. Regression equation The regression equation can be described as the relationship between the two variables being studied or researched. It also makes sense for the dependent of any influence on the subject through these two variables (Abernathy, 2011). The regression equation is as under: The above regression equation is Y = 0.284 X + 25.423. Y is the graduation rate, X is the retention and 25.423 is the Y intercept. Hence, the positive relationship is quite significant from the above universities. And, this can be proved in this manner: Y = 0.2845 x 35 + 25.423 = 35% Y = 0.2845 x 40 + 25.43 = 36% Therefore, the increase in any positive aspects will prove to be a great source of influence on the graduation rate. Discussion and Recommendations The University of South has a favorable graduation rate along with a retention rate. The graduation rate increases because the retention rate increases as it has been discussed above already. But the first and foremost concern is that some of the universities have lower retention rates but their graduation rates increase and that might be due to the fact that the retention rate is decreasing. Apart from this, the Universities of Phoenix has a lower retention rate and the most surprising fact is that the graduation rates also increase (Karafiath, 2014). The graduation rates are solely dependent on the retention rate. With such a lower retention rate, the graduation rates are increasing. This would mean that when the retention rate increases, the graduation would increase more than all this. This is due to the fact that with a lower retention rate, the graduation rate is still more favorable. Bibliography Abernathy, J.R., 2011. Luis Torres Essays - Music, Culture, African-American Culture, Fads

Luis Torres Dr. Ray Gehani Globalization and Outsourcing of U.S Industry 04/23/2017 Globalization and Outsourcing of Music in U.S Globalization of markets also means globalization of culture and Americanization. An example can be observed in the music industry. Since the creation of hip-hop in the 1980's, rap music has extended to other cultures around the globe. From South Africa to Japan, hip hop has made a universal impression. Many rap artists from the United States confess that a substantial amount of their music is actually purchased in other countries. So much so that, the overseas sales frequently surpass the amount of music bought domestically. This stimulates World Tours, touring places like Germany, Puerto Rico, and Australia. Around the world, various nationalities are also rapping to beats that reflect their culture. Punjabi MC is a DJ out of London of Indian descent who makes music with a different spin. His music often encompasses instruments and sounds that are reminiscent of India and Bollywood and has also collaborated with renowned American rappers such as Jay Z. Not only do American performers try to make it in the music business, brilliant men in Nigeria, Cuba, and Brazil have done so as well. "American hip hop music coursed the cultural corridors of the planet and has been captivated and reinvented around the globe", (Nawotka, 2004). Some claim that hip hop has become prevalent on a global scale because many people relate to the music. African-americans in New York shaped rap to what it is today, using it as a way to express their struggles at the time. Often rappers express their adversities, challenges, and issues with poverty. Rappers also oust their feelings about corruption, the government, and racial inequality. As a culturally oppressed people, other societies identify with these feelings of oppression expressed by African Americans. "Hip hop is something Americans take for grantednot so elsewhere, especially in the developing world, where it has come to represent the empowerment of the disenfranchisement of the American dream", (Nawotka, 2004). As a result, globalization and Americanization has impacted other countries across the world. Globalizing markets means that different cultures and societies will be oppressed and disenfranchised. Rappers in Nigeria also rap about their struggles with poverty. T hrough American hip hop, artist around the world use music as a way to express themselves, relating with the want for liberty and social equality. Americanization is an effect that is presently dispersing throughout the developed world. It is especially observed in music where most industrialized countries are moved and affected by the hip hop singularity. Although rap was created in America by Americans, many people around the globe have picked up on this art and changed the music to reflect their culture, or rap to an American beat in their native language.

Forced Marriages Essays

Forced Marriages Essays Forced Marriages Essay Forced Marriages Essay What tradition, the tradition of forced marriages. It Is an unpleasant tradition of forced marriages, which still sadly, exists in this modern world. This form of pairing, affects mainly the young British Asian girls/women in the I-J. Not only does this happen here, but also in many parts of the world due to tradition that goes back to centuries. The practice of forced marriage was very common amongst the upper classes in Europe until the asses, but Is still a growing problem around the world. Forced marriages can often be confused with arranged marriages. Arranged marriages defer from forced marriage, as an arranged marriage would be arranged by someone other than the couple getting wedded. A forced marriage is a marriage in which one is married without his or her consent, or against his or her will. This tradition is still practiced in South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. In most but not all forced marriages, it is the female (rather than the male) who Is the Involuntary spouse. Men and women are still not completely equal In this world, and this upsets me knowing that I am growing up In an unbalanced society where women are constantly being prejudiced against men, which is why I think arced marriages should go into Room 101 . And what is the government actually doing to stop or help young girls being forced into marrying strangers or In some cases their own first cousins? Action must be taken now. The tradition of arranged marriage is central to the social systems of the community, and in particular to the system of honor. : Marriages negotiated by community elders view the union as bringing together two families, rather than two individuals. Forced marriages are generally made because of family pride and the wishes of the parents. In many circumstances, the daughter must do everything the ether tells her to do. The parents would constantly Imprint the Idea that the formally social standing or image Is worsening. This manipulation causes the child to feel that they cannot let the family down, as they fear getting rejected by them. In worst cases, the child or woman would become a victim to mental, physical or sexual abuse in order to keep quiet about the arrangement of marriage. In some instances victims have even been murdered. Many cases involve the person thinking that they are going on a holiday to their home country, but In fact it wont be a holiday at all. They re left abandoned by people who they thought they could trust. They end up facing life with a stranger, living there in distress, misery and hell for the rest of their lives. Because of this, many organizations have been introduced to the victims of forced marriages. It is quite rare that a young woman who has been forced to marry has escaped the marriage, and had returned back home. Because of their experience, they have the urge to want to help the hundreds of girls facing forced marriages. These organizations help, advise and comfort those who are subjected to the forced marriages wince snouts De recognized as a crime. Puddle awareness Ana start become more acknowledged, as there are things such as warning signs which start to follow on a forced marriage, suspicions about parents or suspicions on going on these so-called holidays. But I think the Government needs to tighten in order to prevent this from happening because not much is known about this issue. It is a crime against humanity. We all know how religion and old traditions oppresses women in the most degrading and the most outrageous forms. Dont you think it is about time to do something to ensure a womens well being? Dont you think it is about time to CRIMINALS any arced marriages? We have paid respect to ancient tradition for so long and ignored the rights of the children and women. There is always an argument on any subject. One should not be biased, but in some circumstances, the other side is really not needed. This topic is one of those, as the pros of forced marriage are absolutely, totally unnecessary. Who and for what reason would someone want to agree with this mortifying way of marriage? Well people may be for forced marriages, in order to save their family reputation as they do not want to be humiliated in their community. Following the tradition of forced arraign is the route they take, taking in no concern of their children. Where force is used in marriage, it is generally Justified through an appeal to traditional values the authority and wisdom of parents, the childrens duty of obedience, the honor of the family, respecting the tradition. Few people openly support force in marriage. When it happens, the perpetrators do not say, or for the most part even believe, that they are forcing their children into an unpleasant situation. They do not take account in what they are putting their children through. They say, and usually believe that their rater age, wisdom and experience give them a better understanding of their childrens long term welfare. Parents who push children into forced marriages are often unaware of the family law of this country. They believe they are doing the right thing by choosing the most suitable brides or grooms for their children. Some may have agreements with other families abroad; these may include having agreeing or promising to have the children married while before they are born, or having the two children married in order to bring the spouse into the I-J, or Just to strengthen the families position in the community. Parents who force their children to marry often Justify their behavior as protecting their children, building stronger families and preserving cultural or religious traditions. They do not see anything wrong in their actions. Other cultures view forced marriage as the only valid form of marriage as they may not recognize Western ideas of love and romance. Refusal to go through with a forced marriage has, in the past, been linked to so-called honor crimes. Honor crimes include abduction, imprisonment, physical and emotional abuse, forced abortions and rape, as well as murder. This is an example of such honor rimes linked with family tradition. This case involved Samara Aziza, whose brother and young cousin were given life sentences for her murder. The killing of the bright 25-year old graduate happened in the family home in Southpaw, West London, when her family decided she had to pay for having an affair with a Muslim man, not of her Tamales choosing. As her brother had been led away by police after killing Samara, he had said: There had been a problem with my sister. She does not wish to have an arranged marriage We only allow marriage within the family. My sister wanted to run away from the souse and was stopped. The whole family witnessed the event, and Samaras father had fled to Pakistan, where there is no extradition treaty, to avoid Justice. Her mother had stood by and watched as Samara was stabbed and then pulled back into the house by her hair as she tried to flee the house. Samara was stabbed eighteen times, and her throat was cut three times. The two children of Char Nazi, her 29- year old brother, were so close to the scene of the killing that they were spattered with blood. The children were aged two and four. In many cultures, the women are often looked down on than the males. A Kurdish girl named Dreary had received the order to kill herself from her uncle, via a SMS text message on her cell phone. The message read: Mimi have blackened our name. Kill yourself and clean our shame or we will kill you first. She had been seeing a boy from her school and was caught out by her family. She fled from her family, and she said, In my village and in my fathers tribe, boys are in the sky while girls are treated as if they are under the earth. The other side of the argument can go on forever as there are endless reasons why which forced marriages should go in Room 101 . Forced marriage is not a religious issue; every major faith condemns it and freely given consent is a condition of Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Sikh marriages. Opposing tradition, in Islam, the Prophet Muhammad said: A previously married woman shall not be married without being consulted and a vi rgin shall not be married without her consent. This statement clearly establishes the principle of the females right to choose a marriage partner. Neither the legal guardian nor anyone else can force a female (or male) to marry against his or hers wishes, since Islam emphatically disallows forced arises. Why people still force their children to marry out of their will, even though it is against their religion is the question. Western society and the United Nations view forced marriage as a form of human rights abuse, since it violates the principle of the freedom and independence of individuals. It prevents the person from finishing their education, having a social life (socializing, dating) and having a happy life. Why should someone not have the right to choose their husband or wife whom they will spend the rest of their life with? As the parent constantly tells the child that t is up to them to keep the familys name honorable, once they are married, they feel they have to stay married as they cannot let down the family. If they return home, their parents would usually disown them, so this consequence influences them to stay married even though they are unhappy. Forced marriage can have a serious impact on a person, as their mentality changes due to depression and unhappiness can lead to health problems. The emotional abuse and threatening behavior coming from the family often leads to excessive anxiety, isolation, eating disorders, running away, self-harm or even suicide. When someone has been forced into a marriage and is now living abroad, the in-laws may do everything in their power to prevent the wife or husband running away or contacting their friends or Tamely. I Nils can Involve Pensacola Ana sexual souse, sometimes Imprisonment. In in-laws may even keep the passport of the person so that if they do try to run away, they wont be able to get very far. This case study is a about a woman named Same Ala was forced into a marriage at thirteen years of age. Same had been abandoned by her parents and so she grew up in a childrens home from the age of six months. When she was even; she was told that her family wanted her back, she couldnt wait. However she returned to a dirty house where she was subjected to endless chores. She lived with her brothers and sisters. Apart from her sister Mean, nobody in the family ever spoke to Same unless to bark commands. She suffered abuse from her mother who would punch her back and push her on the kitchen floor. Her mother also tried to cure Same of her stutter, as she pinned her to the floor and cut the skin under her tongue with a razor blade. Her mothers abuse drove Same to unhappiness which made her perform self harm. When her mother told Same about a trip to Pakistan, she was excited as she was to visit Pakistan for the first time, only to discover she wasnt there for a holiday. Instead Same was taken to an isolated village and forced to marry a man in his late twenties called Faze. From the wedding night on, he raped her. Aged Just thirteen, he would rape her repeatedly. Two months later, when she was fourteen she fell pregnant, Just as her mother had intended. Even better, with a son. Like many forced brides, Same had cut herself and taken an overdose to escape her marriage, but now she was a mother, she knew she had to live for her sons sake. When she was seventeen, she escaped from the family to Glasgow. The family was putting pressure on Same to go to Pakistan to bring back her son Faze. When she refused, her brother Mans had threatened her, You are going to Pakistan, even if it is in a body bag. It was then that a family friend, Share All, came to stay. She felt she could confide in him. Share came from a much more liberal family and was horrified by what she told him. At the end of 1987, Share rescued Same and Gamier and took them to Manchester. He had thought he could provide for her and keep her safe, but she wasnt safe. A ewe months later three men were arrested after a random police stop on the outskirts of Manchester. In their van were knives, baseball bats and other weapons. Mans had hired them to bring Gamier back and amazingly, Same, Share and Gamier had moved to a new address that very morning; the kidnappers had only their old address. Same was called to give evidence against her brother. As she saw her mother, she did not want to make any eye-contact as she did not want to show her mother of how scared she was. Mans was sentenced to four years for attempted kidnapping. She became Saguaros wife, whom she had her second hill with. He was the first person to show her affection and understanding since her days in the childrens home. It was a love that encouraged her to get a qualification in tourism she had had no formal education since the age of 12 and a Job at Manchester Airport. Then in 2007 she decided to stand for election to Manchester City Council, and won the biggest ever majority in her ward. Her brothers and sisters still live in Glasgow. They had come to visit her in hospital as she was having a brain tumor removed. But why was Same the only one of her siblings to be abused and Trace Into marriage? En Degas researching, Totally, Logrolling ten truth Tanat nerd uncle in Pakistan had lost a lot of money in gambling and he had promised his creditor a nice English-Pakistani girl as a way to avoid repaying the debt. Her mother wanted to help her brother more than to look after Same. Apart from Mans, Same still has some contact with her siblings, all of whom are married and have children. Although her sisters still believe that you cannot pick your own husband. Her eldest son has chosen his own bride two years older than him, Sarah who Same is very delighted and excited about. Excited about Sarahs choice to have both English and Asian wedding which will be extremely colorful and beautiful. So different from her first marriage into a world where she did not belong. She has transformed her terrifying ordeal into a book called Belonging, in which she describes her traumatic life as a victim of forced marriage. This case is a case which is quite unique and rare as she had the chance to escape, and was able to be saved by her later husband, Share. Not many victims are able to have the same chance of being saved, which is why something must be done to prevent forced marriages from aging place. This short case study is about a girl who was forced in a marriage which later resulted in attempted suicide. A girl was forced by her parents to marry her cousin from their village back home. When they first told her about the idea she made it clear that this was not what she wanted, but they insisted that she do as she was told. She did not feel she could go against her parents wishes as she did not want to hurt them, despite her friends urging her to take a stand. She married her cousin but was desperately unhappy and after two months she attempted suicide. Fortunately a rend found her in time and she was unsuccessful. She remains with her husband, although he treats her badly. She suffers from depression and attends an Asian womens support group following a referral from her GAP. She says she cannot leave her husband as it would bring shame on her family and hurt her parents. Her parents constant pressure to not let them down made it very difficult for her to rebel against the idea of letting them down. Some cases include girls contacting their embassy or high commissions office, which then attempts to rescue the girl and bring them back home. Sometimes it may be difficult as people in the village may hear upon this and pass the message on to the family which then hide the girl. Some may keep the passport to prevent the girl from going back home. The girl then has a choice to make. To either, return home where she can start a new life but she will be rejected from her family, or to be honorable to her parents by returning back to the marriage. This is often an incredibly hard decision to make which can affect the person emotionally. These cases are truly shocking and mortifying, knowing that these women and girls have to o through such experiences makes me feel absolutely sick. Currently, some two hundred cases of forced marriage are reported to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office each year. Many others go unreported. Reading this really upsets me, which strengthens my views on this topic. I would really want to see this sort of thing to stop, dont you? I En Internet Ana meal are congested Walt flews AT Trace marriages. Certainly all would be against the idea, but is this enough to change the law? Many documentaries and foundations have been made to reflect upon the hidden problem in order to raise awareness. Guiding Cards is a writer, broadcaster, and a British-Pakistani and also a neighbor of mine. He appeared in a recent broadcast (1st December 2008) of a BBC 2 documentary called This World: Forced Marriages. I wanted to know about his views on forced marriages so I decided to interview him. He told me that; The idea is that the parents want to keep the families together. So they think the best thing for them is to marry their children to somebody in the same clan, that will keep the family and clan together. And what happens is that when the girl refuses to engage in this activity, they usually runaway so instead of the family being together, the family actually breaks up. I then asked him, what is the solution and how is this going to stop? He responded by saying; Mimi need to declare forced marriages as a criminal activity, we have to criminality it. There is no other option. We have to tell these people who engage in this practice, that this practice has no place in contemporary Britain, that it is in fact a criminal act. You are violating somebody human rights, in some case you may be kidnapping them, and then of course you are forcing them onto a marriage. Author and actor Emmer Slay said: We want the older generations to know that we respect their culture, tradition and we understand that arranged marriages have a place in society. But there is a vast difference between an arranged and a forced marriage Consent. Emmer Slay is a supporter of the Forced Marriage Unit set up in 2000. Their slogan reads, Mimi have the right to choose Use it. Adamant Green is a Conservative home affairs spokesman who said, Forced marriages are a form of domestic vio lence that cannot be Justified on religious or cultural rounds. Crown Prosecution Service of West London sector director Nazi Faze says, Forced marriage is the beginning of the suffering, a wife will be repeatedly raped, assaulted and suffer a lifetime of abuse. There are many views on forced marriages but why would someone back the idea of forced marriages? The elder generation claims that it is the right thing to do as their parents had done the same. As long as the child lives under their roof they will do what they say. But what link is this with religion? There is no link, as it is against religious belief in many religions. People who engage in this act of forced marriage are usually more concerned putting culture/tradition ahead of religion. As long as the family has a good name, they are not prepared to pay the price of their children bringing shame to the family. Government NAS a role to play In all AT tens. But want nave teen done so Tar, Ana what are they prepared to do to prevent forced marriages from undergoing? The Governments forced marriage unit helps around 300 people a year who are forced into a marriage against their will here in the I-J or abroad. Around 15% of the people they help are male. The Foreign Office originally set up the Forced Marriage Unit in 2000. It was re-launched in January last year as a Joint venture with the Home Office with an annual budget of IEEE,OHO. At present, forced marriage is not a specific criminal offence in England and Wales, in the same way that domestic violence is not a specific criminal offence. According to The Forced Marriage (Civil Protection) Act (2007), a consultation paper by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Home Office called Forced Marriage: A Wrong not a Right, seeking views on whether there should be a specific criminal offence of forced marriage. The majority of respondents felt that the disadvantages of creating new criminal legislation would outweigh the advantages and the Government announced it would pursue civil, rather than criminal, legislation. So at present anyone found guilty of forcing someone into marriage can be prosecuted for kidnap, false imprisonment or rape, which are the criminal acts connected to forced marriage. Has anything changed? Has the number of people engaging in forced marriages changed? I feel the message is not being put across to those families who do not understand the full consequences of their actions. They do not realism that it is inhumane to force someone into a marriage in which they will have to live in for the rest of their lives. I think the government should really reconsider making forced marriages illegal. Making it illegal would entitle someone for example a doctor, youth worker, or even a friend eligible, to report the perpetrator to the police after noticing signs of someone becoming a victim. In conclusion, the definition of forced marriages speaks for itself. It has the opposite meaning to an arranged marriage, as one involves the future spouses giving heir full consent, while the other simply does not, and this is when forced marriage takes place. In its many cases, young adults and even children have been taken away by their parents and literally dumped with estranged men, sometimes cousins, along with their family who can be extremely violent towards the victims. For many of these victims, there is no way out as once they are married, an automatic ultimatum has been created for them. To either runaway back to their home and resume their education, but being disowned by their family, or to resume married life to protect and honor your family. Life for the victim can be extremely difficult as emotional pressure would have changed their mentality for the worst, causing them to runaway, perform self harm or to even commit suicide. If this is the outcome for some victims, why isnt anything being done? Why are we as a community, society, letting this happen right under our noses? It could be happening right now, and we could do something to prevent it from worsening, but it isnt that easy. People must be more aware of this problem, not only victims but the parents who engage in it. They need to realism that it is a false practice which has no humane meaning, no respect, and it retainer does not bring honor only shame. Although people claim that they had to also go tongue ten same thing, 010 teen not tank tenure was anything wrong Witt it, why would they want to enforce the same tradition on to their children? Do they think it would make their children happy? Or are they only doing this to make themselves happy? Over the years, society has changed, certainly in the British Asian community, but people are undetermined to move on from their traditions of the past. They must be able to see sense that it is utterly wrong to force someone into a marriage that they dont wish to be apart of. The youth of Asian Britain know that it is wrong and may think it is somewhat disgusting to marry your own cousin. They are aware of the problem, but what if their parents are traditional and expect the same expectations their parents had? We need to get through to them, tell them that a child is precious, and no matter if it is a boy or a girl you should not give them away to a life of unhappiness. Is this what they really want? If I were to ask a traditional parent, not even to start with the subject of forced marriage. If I were to ask, Would you want to see your son/daughter happy?
